Once everything is done, I plan to purchase and come up with a domain name using your guys' suggestions. I then hope to acquire the twitter account of Equestria Gaming and post a link to the new domain.

If Red, the previous site owner, is unwilling to cooperate, I'll try to get EqD to post about the new site.

In case you guys are curious, here's the current site so far:

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

Congrats. Sounds like a worthy task. If nothing else it was a good PR outlet. Anything posted on EQD has a pretty short front page time due to the sheer volume of posts. Acceptable for known things but bad for anything brand new.

I second the suggestion about a donation mechanism for expenses like domain registration If this is for the good of the community (such as it is) then asking you (or anyone else) to shoulder it alone is very unkind. You might even look into real blog hosting (I.e. an actual server that will give you more control) if things work out well. In such a case an estimate of actual cost is helpful. Probably Blogger is more than good enough for now though.

With me having spontaneously bought the .org and .net variants, I like to think I opted for the financing of the domains. Even if there wasn't gonna be a donation pool, I was set on just paying it out of my own pocket for the sake of the community.
That's awesome dude, huge props to you for doing that! We should try to have one point to the site by the end of the week! Out of curiosity, how much was the price of the domains? If it was too much I wouldn't mind helping to cover the costs.

After you've rebuilt the old posts database, I would suggest rebuilding the site appearance. The old on wasn't that great in my opionion.

By the way, have you thought about how to write new articles? Like, will you do everything yourself, or something more like the old management, waiting for submissions?

I might end up changing the look in the future, but for now I think keeping the old style would be better for several reasons. Firstly, I'm not the best at designing, so it's better to base it off a template that has worked in the past, and since I have all the site's source assets I can do that. Secondly, people have nostalgic attachment to the old site, including me. It would feel wrong to change it, especially if I'm branding it under the same name.

As for the new articles, I will open up submissions, but I will also seek out new games to post since I expect traffic to the site will be slow at first.

Well it was just a measly 38€ in the end. Hardly a massive chunk of my budget, so don't you worry about splitting the bill. I've got expendable cash and no crippling loans hanging over my head, so I'll take this one, no sweat.

Oh and I found this, that might help with the domain pointing. You just need to throw me a bit of Dns info and then I'll slap it into the zone file and we should be good to go! Equestria Gaming accessibly back up and running!
I'll just leave it to you whether equestriagaming.net or .org should be the primary address, since we have both available and all. I'll get the other one redirecting towards the primary one afterwards. No reason letting one of them go to waste.

Oh and I'd be more than happy to assist with the site itself aside from just carrying the domain, importing the old posts, getting emails attached to the domain, this and that.
400 posts are gonna take quite a while all on your own, after all, not to mention the writing of articles and management afterwards.

Honestly, it was a perfectly acceptable site for the intended purpose. Not everybody can be EQD or FIMFiction. Also, customization on a system you don't have control of is usually hard and/or expensive (like blogger or wordpress -- when you're not the host). It could use something though. I like the old banner better (the one with two ponies in armor with spears -- derpy? other?). It didn't exactly scream GAMING! but it did feel more distinctive than the weird monochrome pony and game pad on top of a fuzzed out collage of app icon shaped image cutouts (the foreground being all right and the background seeming slapdash).

Just my two cents, but it's good to have a steady stream of articles and submissions. The former keeps your site from becoming seeming dead while the latter allows there to be more than the site admins posts and musings. Doing everything yourself seems like a recipe for burnout or loss of interest.

That would be very helpful, I'd definitely appreciate the help!  I'll send you a link to the folder with all the screenshots as well as the site's assets, I'll just need your email so that I can give you permissions to write posts and stuff.

That was the old domain, as registered on blogspot and then set to be equestriagaming.com.
The new blogspot domain has 'test' after 'gaming', and is now equestriagaming.net/org.

Ah, interesting. Thanks for pointing that out. Glad to see there's an official address beyond blogspot and I sure hope there's more to come. Smile

It at least shows that the old Equestria Gaming still exists on the google servers, but is forever locked away by that redirect. The last remnants of the original Equestria Gaming.
